What a start to the year! Our very first meeting in the new year was not only our first attempt at a hybrid meeting but I was also presented with the Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee Medal by MLA Janis Irwin. I am flattered to have received a nomination from both MLA Christina Gray and Opposition Leader MLA Rachel Notley who recognized my history of activism, community organizing and endlessly “working to achieve a more fair and equitable world for all workers”.
In my acceptance speech I stressed that I am accepting the award on behalf of workers throughout the Edmonton capital region who have worked along side me throughout this journey. This work is never done in a silo and has no chance of being accomplished alone. It is through your steadfast commitment to justice and a better world that I was even considered for this award and for that, I thank you.
I am looking forward to the change we can bring to this province as we march forward together into 2023.
