At CUPE Alberta convention I had the absolute pleasure of sitting along side Laura Walton and Alex Shevalier on a panel discussing how we have created winning campaigns. The importance of organizing and listening to workers in informing the campaign from the beginning was an easily identifiable theme. The need to invest in our members and trust in their guidance is paramount if we ever hope to see any campaign gain traction in the public arena.
While there, I had the opportunity to hear from so many front line workers from across the province who agreed that there is a strong need to meaningfully reach out to workers and take their issues seriously.
It takes a concerted effort to engage in this organizing work and never waver from the commitment to represent workers instead of telling them how to feel. I can’t wait for the opportunity to bring this change to our labour movement at the provincial level on your behalf at the AFL convention this spring!
